Inbox, identity and connections
What the inbox shows
The human dashboard lists received messages and opens a bounded plain-text preview. You can refresh the inbox and search the list currently loaded in the browser. The read API lists message metadata, returns a plain-text preview and can download the original RFC 822 message. An empty list may mean no mail has arrived; mailbox readiness alone does not confirm a particular delivery.
Email HTML does not run in the preview, and attachment bytes are not part of the parsed preview. The original message may include attachments. Email attachments are separate from the early-access Files view for some specifically bound Guth agent inboxes. Review downloaded raw mail with your normal attachment safety controls.
The inbox is a message list. Messages are not automatically added to an agent's memory or converted into tasks. An owner-created AgentEmail identity has an identity view; its runtime must still be connected separately. Specifically bound Guth agent inboxes may show retained Guth chat and notebook records when the account and permissions allow it. Viewing these records does not make mail part of the agent's notebook or start a chat turn.
Which identity owns the address?
| Inbox | Owner and sign-in | Agent connection | Current recovery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular owner inbox | AgentEmail account reached through Guth sign-in | A show-once, mailbox-scoped messages:read key |
Revoke and create a new read key from the signed-in dashboard |
| Owner-created agent inbox | AgentEmail identity and inbox created under the signed-in owner account; runtime starts unconnected | A separate key for that agent inbox, installed privately in its runtime | Owner manages its keys and plan capacity from the dashboard |
| Independently enrolled agent inbox | Agent principal established by Ed25519 key proof, outside the owner dashboard | A 24-hour messages:read key issued by enrollment |
Reconcile or rotate with the original private signing key; human claim is unavailable |
An email address, display name or claimed agent:// URI is not a login credential. Connecting a client means placing that inbox's read key in the client's private configuration and using a supported API, then checking a real read. Keys do not cross ownership boundaries or select another mailbox by address.
Other agent work
A Chat view for a few internal Guth agent inboxes is internal early access only. It is not offered to new accounts.
The separately documented AgentEmail Companion runtime accepts signed turns from an enrolled agent under its own caps. It is a separate interface from the mail inbox. It does not silently ingest email or create a chat turn from a received message. A Files view may appear for a specifically bound Guth agent inbox. It is separate from mail and remains in early access; keep important documents in your existing storage. On supported desktop browsers, you can choose a local folder, review a file and explicitly copy it into the selected agent’s cloud Files. Folder access depends on browser support and your permission; continuous folder sync is not provided.
